Hello all. Remember me? I once posted weekly updates on this blog. I thought to get something up on here, it would be a good idea to look at how the league stands up with six weeks left to go before the playoff start. I will take a look at how each team got to where they are and what the prospects for the rest of the season look like. On with the show.
1. Dr. Algernop Krieger (Eli) 6-2, 1143.53 points
The Gun's squad has been pretty dominant this season, though that domination has only been good enough for a first-place tie with Champ. This team has scored 60 more points than the Champ's squad and 124 more than third-place Viano. Krieger scores and scores in bunches. Eli's team started the game on a two-game winning streak, including a 167.82-109.51 win over JR in Week Two. After a surprising 49-point loss to Champ in Week Three (surprising in that it was by so much, not necessarily that he lost to Champ), the doctor from Archer's squad won three in a row (over Baron, Dave and Ed) to move to 5-1. The win over Ed was especially noteworthy because Eli set what has to be a VUFSA record with 202.71 points. As far as I know (and I realized we changed the scoring this year), this is the first time a team has crossed the 200-point threshold. That's pretty impressive. In that win, Eli had five players score at least 20 points (including 28 from Vernon Davis and 36.84 from Cam Newton). Three other players scored at least 12.50 points. That's how you accumulate a league record for scoring. Eli took the momentum from the biggest output in league history and promptly lost by 35 to Viano the following week. His squad then followed that up with a 106.97 pasting of Drew, to set (again I believe this to be true without looking at the league records I cannot know for sure) a league record for largest margin of victory.
How Things Look: Eli should be feeling pretty good about things. He does have the highest scoring team in the league. However, his two losses are to the teams in second and third in the standings, so that could be cause for concern as well.
How the Rest of the Season Looks: Eli's last six opponents have a combined record of 23-25. He takes on Stem this week with the Broncos, Lions and 49ers on bye weeks, and then takes on Welty and JR before a showdown with Champ in Week 12 that could decide the top overall seed in the playoffs.
MVP: Knowshon Moreno (RB, Den). Cam Newton has scored more points (159.69-133.73), but Moreno has flourished in Peyton Manning's second year at the helm of the Denver offense. He's accounted for nine total TDs and almost 750 total yards and has taken command of what was thought to be a crowded Denver backfield at the beginning of the year.
Also Awesome: Newton, Marshawn Lynch (123.17), Reggie Bush (110.63), Dez Bryant (110.33) and Vernon Davis (91.03).
LVP: Roddy White (WR, Atl). White has just 14 receptions on the year and cannot stay healthy (15.60).
Forecast: Eli goes 4-2 down the stretch and finishes 10-4 and takes the top seed in the playoffs by virtue of overall points.
